The Purton Memorial Window was designed by Glen Mack Studios and is dedicated to the memory of esteemed Parishioner, Vestry Member and Church Warden: Cec Purton 1906 - 1991.

The window represents a journey through fire and water toward a place of light, peace and abundance. The predominantly strong primary colours cause the window to radiate and glow with intensity. The ruby represents fire and the deep blue, water.

The overall movement of the window is circular but, at the same time, there is a strong movement from the outside towards the center and the source of light. The yellow circular symbols represent ourselves.
Although they share a similar shape, they are slightly different and have knobs on them. These knobs represent our imperfections. Their path to the center is arduous and filled with the hazards of distance, time and other dangerous elements. Although they are led on a path which is never direct, they continue unwaveringly toward their goal. The closer they come to eternity through fire and water the less imperfections they have until the one closest to the source of life is almost round.

The window has been designed to incorporate two perspectives at the same time. The first perspective causes the ‘center’ to be seen as a source which radiates energy and tongues of fire outwards. Both fire and water are symbols of the Holy Spirit but they can also be symbols for danger. The second perspective causes our perception to ‘flip’ to another view where the center seems to be the light at the end of a tunnel filled with fire and water. These two ambiguous views co-exist, and could represent both God reaching toward us, and us wandering our path but drawing inexorably toward him.

We went through fire and water but you led us to a place of abundance.
